The Bear Who Swam with Stars
Barnaby was not like other bears. While his friends slept through the winter, Barnaby dreamed of swimming in the deep blue lake near his forest home. His mother always told him to take his vitamin — one special orange drop from the ancient oak tree every morning. "It gives you courage," she would say.
One golden morning, Barnaby met someone extraordinary. A tiny goldfish with scales like sunset jumped right out of the water and onto his nose! "I'm Finny," said the fish. "And you're the first bear I've ever seen who wants to swim."
Barnaby's eyes grew wide. "How did you know?"
Finny did a flip in the air. "Because I can see dreams! Yours sparkle like bubbles."
Together they swam to the center of the lake, where something magical poked up from the water — an ancient stone sphinx with emerald eyes! The sphinx spoke in riddles. "Answer my question, little bear, and you shall receive the greatest treasure."
"What's your riddle?" Barnaby asked, his heart pounding.
"What shines brighter than gold but weighs nothing at all?"
Barnaby thought hard. He looked at Finny shimmering in the sunlight. He thought about his mother's love. He remembered his dreams.
"A smile!" Barnaby exclaimed.
The sphinx's emerald eyes twinkled. "Correct. Your treasure is this: whenever you need courage, just remember — you are never alone when you have friends who believe in you."
And so Barnaby the bear became the first swimming bear in the forest, with Finny the goldfish always by his side, teaching all the other animals that the greatest adventures begin with being brave enough to try something new.
That night, Barnaby took his vitamin with extra joy, knowing that true courage comes from the heart — and friendship is the best treasure of all.
