The Bear Who Swam with Stars

Bruno was a fluffy brown bear who lived in a cozy cave near a sparkling stream. But Bruno had a secret—he was afraid of water. He could catch salmon with his paws, but he never, ever went swimming.

What Bruno loved most of all was papayas. Juicy, orange papayas that tasted like sunshine. Every morning, he'd climb the tallest papaya tree and pick the perfect fruit for breakfast.

One hot afternoon, Bruno heard a tiny voice.

"Hello? Can anyone help me?"

Bruno looked around. Sitting in a small puddle was the most beautiful goldfish he'd ever seen. Her scales shimmered like tiny stars, and she flopped her tail sadly.

"My name is Glitter," said the goldfish. "The stream is drying up, and I'm stuck in this little puddle. I need to reach the big river downstream, but I can't swim there by myself."

Bruno's heart went out to Glitter. But the water... his paws trembled.

"I'll help you," Bruno said bravely. "But how?"

Glitter's eyes twinkled. "Do you have anything that floats?"

Bruno thought of his breakfast—a giant papaya he'd picked that morning! He ran to get it, hollowed it out carefully, and placed it in the stream.

"Hop in, Glitter!"

The goldfish swam into the papaya-boat, and Bruno gently pushed it along the stream. At first, Bruno's paws stayed on dry land. But the path grew rocky, and he had to wade in.

The water wasn't scary at all—it felt like a cool hug! Soon Bruno was swimming beside the papaya, his brown fur wet and happy.

"You're doing it!" Glitter cheered. "You're swimming!"

When they reached the big river, other goldfish gathered around. Glitter thanked Bruno with a splash of water that sparkled like gold dust.

"You were braver than you knew," Glitter said.

Bruno smiled, water dripping from his whiskers. Sometimes helping a friend is the best way to discover you're stronger than you think.

And every day after that, Bruno went swimming with his new friends, always sharing his papayas with anyone who needed a little help.
