The Bear Who Swallowed Sunshine

Barnaby was a small brown bear with a very big problem. While all his friends were busy catching salmon and climbing trees, Barnaby had discovered something magical in the woods behind the old ranger's station.

It was a baseball. Not just any baseball — this one glowed with a warm, golden light, as if it had swallowed a piece of the sun. Every morning, Barnaby would tiptoe to the clearing and practice his pitching, watching the golden ball soar through the air leaving sparkles behind like tiny stars.

One day, a young girl named Lily followed the trail of sparkles to Barnaby's clearing. Instead of running away, she clapped her hands. "That's amazing!" she exclaimed. "Do you know what makes that ball shine?"

Barnaby shrugged his furry shoulders. He didn't speak human, but his eyes danced with curiosity.

"My grandmother says that sometimes the sun leaves little pieces of itself in special places," Lily whispered. "And this baseball must be full of sunshine vitamins!"

She pulled a small bottle from her pocket. "My vitamins make me strong and healthy. Imagine what sunshine vitamins could do!"

Barnaby's eyes widened. He gently nudged the golden baseball toward Lily. She understood immediately — he wanted to share.

That afternoon, they played catch together. Every time Barnaby caught the glowing ball, he felt warmer and braver. Every time Lily threw it, she felt stronger and more confident.

When Lily's mother called her home for dinner, she gave Barnaby a gentle hug. "You're the best baseball player I've ever met," she said.

Barnaby beamed, his brown fur seeming to shimmer. He had learned something wonderful that day: magic isn't meant to be kept secret. Like sunshine itself, it's meant to be shared with friends.

From then on, Barnaby wasn't just the bear who played baseball. He was the bear who brought sunshine to everyone he met.
