The Bear Who Saved the Sphinx

Lily loved exploring the forest behind her house. Every day after school, she would wander among the tall pine trees, listening to birds sing and watching squirrels chase each other.

One sunny afternoon, Lily found something amazing hidden behind a waterfall — a golden hat! It sparkled like sunshine, and when she put it on, she could understand what animals were saying.

"Help! Please, somebody help!" cried a voice.

Lily followed the sound and found a large brown bear running in circles. The bear looked worried.

"What's wrong?" Lily asked, using her magical hat.

"My friend the Sphinx is in trouble!" the bear said. "She lives on the mountain top, and she's stuck under a fallen tree. She's been guarding the secret of the forest for hundreds of years!"

Lily had heard of the Sphinx — a magical creature with the body of a lion and the head of a human. The Sphinx asked riddles to travelers, and those who answered correctly received wisdom and gifts.

"I'll help you!" Lily said bravely.

Together, Lily and the bear climbed the mountain. It was hard work, but the bear carried Lily when she got tired. When they reached the top, they found the Sphinx trapped under a massive oak branch.

"Thank you for coming," the Sphinx said weakly. "I asked the wind for help, and it sent you. But first, you must answer my riddle: What has legs but cannot walk?"

Lily thought hard. Then she smiled. "A table!"

"Correct!" the Sphinx said. "Now push together."

Lily and the bear pushed with all their might. The branch moved, and the Sphinx was free! She stretched her powerful lion legs and thanked them.

"You showed true friendship and courage," the Sphinx said. "For your kindness, I give you this gift — whenever you need help, call my name, and the forest will answer."

From that day on, Lily, the bear, and the Sphinx were best friends. They learned that helping others, even when it's hard, is the greatest adventure of all.

And Lily? She still wears her magical hat every day, listening to the wonderful stories of the forest.
