The Bear Who Sang to Lightning
In the deepest part of the Whispering Woods lived a small brown bear named Bramble. He was unlike any other bear—he didn't like honey, and he certainly didn't like climbing trees. What Bramble loved most was sitting by the stream, watching the sparkling water dance over smooth stones.
One hot summer, the stream dried up completely. The fish flopped sadly in the mud, and the flowers drooped their heads. "We need rain," said the oldest oak tree, her leaves rustling worriedly. "But only the Storm King can bring us water now."
Bramble had heard stories of the Storm King—the powerful spirit who rode lightning across the sky. Everyone said the Storm King was fierce and dangerous, but Bramble felt a strange tingle in his paws whenever storms approached. The other bears hid in caves when thunder rumbled, but Bramble wanted to dance.
"I'll find the Storm King," Bramble declared, though his voice trembled.
He climbed to the very top of Cloud Peak, the highest mountain in all the woods. Dark clouds gathered overhead, and the air crackled with energy. Suddenly—a brilliant flash of purple lightning struck nearby!
A magnificent creature appeared—half bear, half storm, with eyes like lightning bolts and fur made of swirling gray clouds. The Storm King roared, and thunder shook the mountain.
"Who dares disturb me?" the Storm King boomed.
Bramble's legs shook, but he remembered the dying stream below. "Please, Storm King. My forest needs water. Will you help us?"
The Storm King's lightning eyes softened. "Nobody has ever asked me nicely. Everyone always runs away."
Bramble stepped closer. "I think your lightning is beautiful. It looks like dancing light in the sky."
The Storm King smiled, and suddenly Bramble understood—he wasn't afraid because he felt the same magic inside himself. The Storm King taught Bramble to sing to the clouds, to call the rain with his heart. Together, they danced across the sky as lightning, painting the darkness with brilliant streaks of light.
That night, gentle rain fell on the Whispering Woods. The stream bubbled with life again, and flowers lifted their heads in gratitude. And sometimes, when storms roll through the woods, you can still see a small brown bear dancing on Cloud Peak, singing to the lightning, making sure the water always returns to his friends.
