The Bear Who Ran with Lightning

Bramble was a small bear with a very big fear. He was afraid of water, and he was afraid of lightning. Every summer, storms rolled over his mountain home, and Bramble would hide deep in his cozy cave, trembling until the sky cleared again.

One evening, as dark clouds gathered overhead, Bramble spotted something tiny glowing in the tall grass near the stream's edge. It was a lightning bug, its light flickering like a miniature star.

"Hello there," the bug squeaked. "I'm Zap. I'm stuck — my wing is wet, and I can't fly home before the storm."

Bramble's heart pounded. The stream between them was rushing fast with the coming rain. Lightning flashed in the distance, painting the sky purple.

"I... I can't cross water," Bramble whispered.

"But your friends will be worried if you don't come home," Zap said sadly. "And the storm is almost here."

Bramble looked at his paws. They were shaking. He looked at Zap, whose light was growing dimmer. He thought about his mother's words: "Bravery isn't not being afraid. It's being afraid and doing the right thing anyway."

Thunder rumbled. Rain began to fall, cold and fast. Bramble took a deep breath.

"Hold on tight," Bramble said, and he started running.

His paws splashed into the icy water. It was deeper than he'd expected, and the current pulled at his fur. But Bramble kept running, his eyes locked on the far bank where Zap waited.

Suddenly, lightning struck nearby — CRACK! — and for a split second, Bramble saw something amazing. The stream was glowing with electricity, and he felt energy surge through his paws. He wasn't just running through water; he was running ON water, weightless and powerful.

He bounded across the stream in three giant steps, reaching Zap just as the storm broke overhead.

"You did it!" Zap cried, climbing onto Bramble's shoulder. "You saved me!"

Bramble carried Zap home through the rain, now warm and happy. The lightning that had once terrified him had helped him discover something new: sometimes, our fears are hiding our greatest strengths.

That night, Bramble slept soundly, dreaming of water that sparkled like stars and lightning that danced like friends. He was still a small bear, but he wasn't afraid anymore.
