The Bear Who Pitched Lightning

Tommy loved baseball more than anything. Every afternoon, he'd practice pitching in his backyard, dreaming of becoming a professional player one day. But nobody wanted to play with him because he lived far from town, near the edge of the mysterious Whispering Woods.

One stormy evening, Tommy grabbed his baseball glove and headed to his favorite practice spot—the old oak tree at the forest's edge. Dark clouds gathered overhead as thunder rumbled like a sleeping giant's snore. Suddenly, a massive bolt of lightning split the sky!

Instead of running inside, Tommy watched in awe as the lightning seemed to dance around the tree. Then he saw it: a huge brown bear stepping from behind the oak, holding a baseball in one massive paw!

"Want to play?" the bear asked, his voice deep and rumbly like distant thunder.

Tommy's eyes went wide. "You can talk?"

"Lightning magic," the bear winked. "Every fifty years, one storm gives me the power of speech. And I've always wanted to learn baseball."

The bear's name was Thunder, and he was the most natural pitcher Tommy had ever seen. Thunder learned quickly—too quickly. Within minutes, he was throwing strikes that made the air sizzle with electricity. Tommy hit every one, and each fly ball seemed to glow as it soared through the dark sky.

They played until the storm passed, laughter mixing with thunder. "Best game ever," Thunder said, handing Tommy a lightning-shaped stone. "For luck."

The bear vanished into the woods as the sun broke through the clouds. At school the next day, Tommy's classmates couldn't believe his story—until he pulled the glowing stone from his pocket and made the most incredible throw anyone had ever seen.

Sometimes the best friends come from the most unexpected places, Tommy realized. And magic exists for those brave enough to play through the storm.
