The Bear Who Painted Lightning
Barnaby was a small bear with a very big dream. He wanted to paint the sky, but his paws were made for catching fish, not holding brushes.
Every day, Barnaby waded into the sparkling blue water to practice. He swam circles around the lake, leaving trails of bubbles that looked just like brushstrokes. The fish gathered to watch, their scales flashing silver in the sunlight.
"What are you doing?" asked Luna, a large orange fish with fins like butterfly wings.
"I'm painting pictures with my swimming," Barnaby said, doing a graceful spiral. "But I wish I had real colors."
Luna smiled. "Wait for the storm."
Barnaby didn't have to wait long. Dark clouds gathered, and the first jagged streak of lightning cracked across the sky. For just a moment, the whole world turned orange-gold.
"Quick!" Luna called. "Swim in the lightning's glow!"
Barnaby swam faster than he ever had before. With each flash of lightning, his path through the water turned brilliant orange. He painted spirals, hearts, and even a giant fish shape that Luna swam through, giggling.
The other fish joined in, creating a rainbow of swirling colors. For one magical hour, Barnaby painted in light.
When the storm passed, Barnaby flopped onto the grass, exhausted but happy. "I did it," he whispered. "I painted the sky."
Luna swam close to the shore. "You did more than that," she said. "You showed us that even bears can create magic."
From that day on, whenever storms came to the lake, all the animals would gather. They knew Barnaby would be there, painting lightning in the water, turning a dark sky into something beautiful.
And somewhere, deep in the water, Luna the orange fish smiled, knowing that friendship was the brightest magic of all.
