The Bear Who Loved Summer Games

Tommy loved summer more than anything. Every morning, he grabbed his favorite baseball glove and ran to the park. "Today's the day!" he told himself. "Today I'll hit a home run!"

He stepped up to the plate, swung his bat with all his might, and—CRACK! The ball sailed through the air, over the trees, and disappeared into the deep forest.

"Oh no!" Tommy cried. "That was my best ball!"

He gathered his courage and stepped into the shadowy woods. The air grew cool and quiet. Suddenly, he heard a rustling sound. A massive brown bear emerged from behind a tree, holding Tommy's baseball gently in its giant paws.

Tommy wanted to run, but the bear's eyes were kind and sparkling. The bear tossed the ball back with surprising grace.

"You can play?" Tommy whispered in wonder.

The bear nodded enthusiastically and pointed to the baseball field.

What happened next was magical. The bear, whose name was Barnaby, became the best first baseman anyone had ever seen. He caught every ball that came his way, and the other children couldn't stop laughing at his happy wiggles whenever he made a good play.

After the game, the summer sun grew hot. "Let's go swimming!" called Tommy's friend Lily.

Barnaby's face fell. He shook his head sadly and backed away.

"What's wrong?" Tommy asked gently.

Lily pointed to the stream. "Bears can't swim like we do. They're too heavy."

Tommy thought for a moment. His eyes lit up. "That's not true! Bears are excellent swimmers! My mom told me—they swim to catch fish!"

He took Barnaby's paw and led him to the sparkling creek. At first, the bear hesitated. But when Tommy splashed water playfully, something wonderful happened. Barnaby leaped in with a giant SPLASH!

The bear paddled gracefully, creating waves that sent everyone giggling. They played for hours, having the best swimming party ever.

As the sun set, Tommy learned something important: sometimes things seem scary or impossible, but friendship and courage can turn any fear into the most wonderful adventure.

"See you tomorrow, Barnaby!" Tommy waved as the bear disappeared into the forest with a happy grunt.

That night, Tommy fell asleep with his baseball glove still on his hand, dreaming of bears, home runs, and magical summer days.
