The Bear Who Loved Riddles

Lily loved swimming in Moonlight Pond, even though her brother said it was enchanted. One evening, as she splashed through the silvery water, something magical happened.

A great brown bear surfaced beside her, wearing a tiny golden crown. "I'm Barnaby," the bear rumbled gently. "And I'm in terrible trouble."

Lily wasn't scared. Barnaby's eyes twinkled like stars.

"What's wrong?" she asked.

"The Sphinx of the Meadows has trapped my friend," Barnaby explained. "She won't let anyone pass unless they win her game—and I'm not clever enough."

Lily's heart raced with excitement. "I'll help!"

They followed a glowing path through meadows filled with flowers that hummed soft melodies. At the end stood a magnificent sphinx with emerald feathers and wise amber eyes.

"I challenge you to a game of padel," the sphinx announced, and a magical court appeared. But this wasn't ordinary padel—the racquets were made of moonlight, and the ball was a captured star.

Lily had never played, but the sphinx smiled. "True skill comes from the heart, not practice. Hit the star with kindness, and it will obey."

The game began! Lily swung her moonlight racquet, thinking of her mother's hugs. The star ball soared over the net, glowing warmer with each kind thought. Barnaby cheered from the sidelines, dancing on two feet.

When Lily finally won the final point, the star ball burst into a thousand butterflies that carried a small fox out from behind the sphinx.

"My friend!" Barnaby cried, hugging the fox.

"You freed me with kindness," said the sphinx, bowing. "That's the greatest magic of all."

That night, Lily swam home with three new friends dancing along the shore. She learned that courage isn't about being brave—it's about being kind, even when facing magical sphinxes in enchanted meadows.
