The Bear Who Loved Lightning Nights

Barnaby was a small bear with very big ears and an even bigger curiosity. Every night, he'd peek out of his cozy cave, watching the sky paint itself with stars. But Barnaby's favorite nights were the stormy ones, when lightning danced across the darkness like crackling ribbons of light.

The older bears warned him about the zombie. "It comes out during lightning storms," his grandmother whispered, her voice serious. "A shuffling, moaning thing that can't find its way home. Stay inside, little Barnaby."

But Barnaby wondered: what if the zombie wasn't scary? What if it was just lonely?

One evening, as the first rumbles of thunder rolled through the forest, Barnaby saw something moving near the old oak tree. Something pale and lopsided, moving slowly in the flashing light. His heart beat fast, but his feet moved forward.

The figure turned. It wasn't a zombie at all! It was a gentle old scarecrow, blown over by the wind, struggling to stand back up in the dazzling flashes of lightning. Each time lightning struck, the scarecrow seemed to come alive, its straw arms waving as if trying to dance.

Barnaby rushed forward and helped the scarecrow stand tall again, packing fresh straw around its wooden frame. The lightning kept flashing, and suddenly, Barnaby understood — the lightning wasn't scary. It was magical. It made everything look different, more alive.

From that night on, Barnaby visited his scarecrow friend during every lightning storm. He learned that scary stories sometimes hide the most beautiful truths, and that the things we fear might just need a friend to help them shine.

And the zombie? Barnaby never found one. But he found something better: the courage to be curious, and a new friend who loved lightning as much as he did.
