The Bear Who Lost His Orange

Barnaby was a gentle bear with fur the color of autumn leaves. His best friend was Patch, a scruffy little dog with one floppy ear and a tail that never stopped wagging.

Every summer afternoon, they visited the old swimming pool behind Mrs. Willow's house. The water sparkled like diamonds, and Barnaby loved nothing more than splashing around while Patch barked at the ripples.

One sunny day, Barnaby brought something special—his very favorite orange, round and bright as a miniature sun. He'd saved it for a perfect moment.

"Watch this!" Barnaby called, tossing the orange into the air. But Patch, thinking it was a game, leaped up and caught it in his mouth!

"Patch! That was my orange!" Barnaby laughed, but inside he felt a little sad.

Patch dropped the orange and looked guilty. His floppy ear drooped even more than usual.

Just then, something magical happened. The orange began to glow, bathing the pool in golden light. The water started bubbling, and from the depths rose a tiny water sprite named Marina.

"I saw what happened," Marina said, her voice like gentle waves. "Patch tried to play, not to steal. And Barnaby, you were going to share anyway, weren't you?"

Barnaby nodded slowly. "Yes. I just wanted Patch to have the first slice."

Patch's tail started thumping happily again.

Marina smiled. "True friends forgive quickly. And the best things in life become better when shared."

With a sprinkle of water, Marina transformed the orange into dozens of glowing orange slices that floated on the pool's surface. Each slice tasted like sunshine and friendship.

Barnaby and Patch spent the rest of the afternoon swimming and eating magical orange slices, laughing as the pool water turned the color of sunset.

That evening, as they walked home, Barnaby patted Patch's head. "You're my best friend, Patch. Even if you do catch my oranges."

Patch licked Barnaby's nose, and together they discovered that some mistakes lead to the most wonderful adventures—especially when you have a friend by your side.
