The Bear Who Found His Sparkle

Barnaby was a small brown bear with very messy hair. It stuck up in every direction, especially when he first woke up in his cozy cave at the base of Sparkle Mountain.

One sunny morning, Barnaby found something strange dangling from a tall pine tree. It was a shiny silver cable that seemed to stretch all the way up to the clouds! Being a curious bear, he gave it a gentle tug. Nothing happened. He pulled harder. Still nothing. Then he climbed onto the cable and—ZING!—it began to move like a magic elevator!

Up, up, up Barnaby went, soaring through the misty clouds. When he reached the top, he discovered a mysterious castle made entirely of crystals. But something was wrong. The crystals had lost their sparkle and looked dull as gray stones.

Suddenly, a slow-moving figure appeared. It was a zombie—a friendly one named Zippy! Zippy had green skin and button eyes, and he moved like he was dancing in slow motion.

"Hello, bear!" Zippy said in a raspy but kind voice. "I'm the Crystal Keeper. But I'm so tired from staying awake to guard the castle that I've become a zombie. The crystals sparkle only when someone truly happy is here."

Barnaby felt sad for his new friend. "I can help!" he said. "My hair is messy because I'm always having fun rolling down hills and splashing in streams. Being happy makes my hair crazy!"

Zippy smiled—a crooked but warm smile. "Maybe your happiness can wake up the crystals!"

Barnaby closed his eyes and thought about all the things he loved: honey, sunshine, splashing in rain puddles, and making new friends. He laughed aloud, and something magical happened. His wild hair began to glow golden, and the glow spread to the crystals all around them.

One by one, the crystals lit up—red, blue, purple, green—until the whole castle sparkled like a rainbow. Zippy's skin turned pink, his eyes brightened, and he started moving normally again.

"You did it!" Zippy cheered. "Your happiness broke the zombie spell!"

Barnaby learned that day that joy is the most powerful magic of all. Now, whenever he rides the crystal cable to visit Zippy, his messy hair glows like a tiny sun, reminding everyone that a happy heart can brighten even the darkest places.
