The Bear Who Forgot to Be Scary
Leo's favorite teddy bear, Barnaby, had seen better days. One button eye hung by a thread, and his orange bow tie was faded from years of hugs. But Leo loved him anyway.
One stormy evening, while Leo's dog Rusty slept at the foot of the bed, something magical happened. A glowing orange cable appeared outside Leo's window, stretching up into the clouds like a rainbow made of light.
"Barnaby, look!" Leo whispered, pressing his nose against the glass. "Do you see that?"
Barnaby's remaining button eye twinkled.
Before Leo could blink, the orange cable wrapped around his windowsill. Whoosh! Leo, Rusty, and Barnaby were pulled up, up, up into the sky!
They landed in a forest where trees were made of candy canes and streams flowed with strawberry milk. But something was wrong. A sad, green figure sat alone on a toadstool, moaning softly.
"What's wrong?" Leo asked, stepping closer.
The figure looked up. It was a zombie, but not a scary one. It was a zombie bear with missing patches of fur and a gentle, droopy face.
"I forgot how to be scary," the zombie bear sighed. "All the other monsters laugh at me because I'm too friendly."
Rusty wagged his tail and licked the zombie bear's hand. The bear smiled, revealing that instead of sharp teeth, he had teeth made of marshmallows.
"You don't have to be scary to be special," Leo said, sharing his orange with the bear. "Look at Barnaby. He's not fierce, but he's the best friend ever."
The zombie bear's eyes lit up. "Really?"
"Really!" said Leo. "Being kind is braver than being scary any day."
The zombie bear stood up tall, his patches of fur shimmering with golden magic. "Thank you," he said. "I'm not a monster. I'm a guardian bear!"
He waved his paw, and the orange cable reappeared, this time woven with flowers and stars. The three friends climbed aboard, and the zombie bear pushed them back home.
"Visit anytime!" he called. "I'll guard the forest with kindness!"
That night, Leo cuddled Barnaby tight, Rusty curled up beside him, and he knew the best adventures are the ones where you make new friends and learn that being yourself—scary or not—is the bravest thing of all.
