The Bear Who Forgot His Hug

Emma loved her teddy bear more than anything in the world. Barnaby was soft and brown, with one ear slightly flopped from too many bedtime adventures. But last night, Emma had left Barnaby outside on the garden wall.

The next morning, Barnaby was gone.

Emma searched everywhere. Behind the oak tree? No. Under the porch? No. Then she saw something strange near the old swimming pool that hadn't been used in years. It was filled with sparkling water now, and something was wobbling near the edge.

"Barnaby?" Emma whispered.

The bear turned slowly. His eyes looked foggy, and he walked like a zombie toy that had forgotten how to be hugged. His arms stuck out stiff, and his legs dragged through the grass. Zombie Barnaby!

Emma gasped but didn't run away. She remembered what her grandmother said: things that look scary are often just magical.

"You forgot your hugs," Emma said softly, stepping closer. The zombie bear blinked, his cloudy eyes clearing just a little.

She dipped her fingers into the magical pool water. It shimmered with rainbow colors. "This is remembering water," she realized. "It helps you forget what makes you sad, and remember what makes you happy."

Emma gently sprinkled water over Barnaby. The bear shivered, then stretched his arms wide. The zombie stiffness melted away like morning fog.

"EMMA!" Barnaby cheered, and he wasn't a zombie anymore—he was just her bear, magical and alive.

"You fell in the memory pool," Emma explained, hugging him tight. "It made you forget. But water can help you remember."

Barnaby wiggled his floppy ear. "I remember now. You love me."

"Always," Emma promised.

That night, Barnaby slept on Emma's pillow, no longer just a toy, but a magical friend who had learned that even zombie bears need their hugs—and that's the best magic of all.
