The Bear Who Danced with Lightning
Leo sat by the edge of the pool, dipping his toes in the cool blue water. It was a hot summer evening, and the air felt thick and still. His iphone rested on the towel beside him, its screen glowing with a game he'd been playing.
Suddenly, the sky turned dark purple. A crack of thunder made him jump! Lightning flashed across the sky like glitter thrown by a giant hand.
Then something magical happened. From the trees emerged a great brown bear. But this wasn't a scary bear – his fur shimmered like starlight, and his eyes held the warmth of a thousand campfires.
'Hello, little one,' the bear spoke in a voice like honey and rainbows. 'I am Bruno, and I come every time the lightning dances.'
Leo's eyes widened. 'You can talk?'
Bruno chuckled. 'Magic happens during storms. Would you like to see?'
The bear touched the pool water with his paw, and suddenly it began to glow – first blue, then pink, then golden! Tiny fish made of light swam in circles, and the water rippled with music like wind chimes.
Leo picked up his iphone. 'I want to remember this forever!'
But Bruno shook his great head gently. 'Some magic cannot be captured in screens. The best memories live here' – he tapped Leo's chest, right where his heart was – 'and here' – he tapped Leo's forehead.
Another lightning bolt flashed, and Bruno began to dance! He twirled on hind legs, splashing glowing water everywhere. Each droplet turned into a tiny butterfly that fluttered up to join the storm clouds.
Leo laughed and jumped in, splashing too! The magical water didn't feel wet – it felt like jumping into a cloud of sparkles.
They played until the storm passed. As the first stars peeked through, Bruno grew sleepy.
'Will I see you again?' Leo asked.
Bruno smiled. 'Remember – magic lives in imagination, friendship, and kindness. Whenever you see lightning, look for me. And whenever you meet someone new, offer them friendship like you offered me yours.'
With a final wink, Bruno disappeared into the trees, leaving only a trail of glowing butterflies.
Leo looked at his iphone and smiled. He turned it off. Some memories were too special for screens. They belonged in the heart, where magic lived forever.
