The Bear Who Couldn't Swim

Lily discovered the secret pool on the hottest day of summer. Tucked behind a waterfall in the forest, it sparkled like liquid sapphires under the sunlight. But someone was already there—a enormous brown bear sitting on the edge, dangling his massive paws in the water.

"Hello," said Lily, bravely stepping closer. The bear jumped, nearly falling into the pool.

"Oh my! A human!" The bear's voice rumbled like gentle thunder. "I'm Bernie. And you've caught me being... well, being a bear who can't swim."

Lily giggled. "Bears love swimming!"

"Not this bear." Bernie sighed, his furry shoulders drooping. "All my brothers and sisters are splashing around at Bear Lake, but here I am, scared of getting my ears wet."

That's when Lily noticed something remarkable. Growing around the pool's edge were the most beautiful emerald-green leaves she'd ever seen. "Is that... spinach?"

Bernie's eyes lit up. "Magic spinach! One bite gives you exactly what you need most. I grow it here by the pool, but I'm too afraid to jump in and water it properly."

Lily's eyes widened. "Bernie, I have an idea! What if the spinach can help both of us?"

She plucked a bright green leaf and took a tiny bite. Suddenly, she felt a warm, tingly feeling spread through her chest—like sunshine and confidence mixed together. "Bernie, try it!"

The bear hesitated, then nibbled a leaf. His eyes grew wide. "I feel... brave! Like I could dance with a bee or hug a skunk!"

"Now," said Lily, taking his paw, "let's meet in the middle of that pool together."

Step by careful step, they waded into the cool water. Bernie's first splash was tiny. Then another. Within minutes, the bear was doggy-paddling (bear-paddling?) around the pool, creating waves that splashed against the rocks.

"I'm doing it!" Bernie cheered. "I'm really swimming!"

Lily laughed, swimming beside her new friend. The magic spinach hadn't just given them courage—it had given them something better. Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is face your fears with a friend by your side.

That summer, Lily visited Bernie every day. They swam, they ate magic spinach sandwiches, and they taught each other that the scariest things often become the most wonderful adventures—especially when you don't have to face them alone.
