The Bear Who Couldn't Hibernate
Barnaby was a dog with very fluffy hair—so fluffy that he looked like a walking cloud. Every morning, his owner, little Lily, would brush his golden fur until it shone like sunshine. Barnaby loved his hair almost as much as he loved Lily.
One autumn afternoon, Barnaby was exploring the forest behind their house when he heard a strange sound. *Sniff, sniff, sob.*
Barnaby followed the sound to a cozy cave beneath an old oak tree. Inside sat a bear—but not just any bear. This bear had patches of fur missing everywhere! He looked like a teddy bear that had been loved too much.
"What's wrong?" Barnaby asked kindly.
The bear wiped his eyes with a big paw. "I'm Bruno, and I can't hibernate! All the other bears are sleeping already, but I can't get comfortable. My missing fur makes me too cold."
Barnaby had an idea. A wonderful, magical idea. "Wait here!" he barked, and bounded back to Lily's house as fast as his fluffy legs could carry him.
When he returned, Barnaby was dragging Lily's old fuzzy blanket behind him. "You can borrow this!" he said. "And look—" Barnaby shook his body, and some of his extra fluffy hair drifted down like golden snowflakes. "I can share my fur too!"
Bruno's eyes grew wide. "But it's your beautiful hair!"
"It grows back," Barnaby said with a wag of his tail. "Friends help each other."
That winter, Bruno slept warm and cozy wrapped in the blanket and Barnaby's gift. And every spring, when Bruno woke up, he and Barnaby would play together in the meadow.
Bruno's fur eventually grew back, but he never forgot the dog who gave up his beautiful hair to help a friend. And Barnaby learned that the best kind of fluffy is the kind you share with someone who needs it.
Because that's what friends do—they take care of each other, no matter how different they might be.
