The Bear Who Could Not Swim

friendbearwater

Once there was a bear named Bruno who lived in the middle of the Great Forest. Bruno was big and fluffy and loved honey, but he had one big problem. He was afraid of water.

All the other bears splashed and played in the sparkling river that ran through the forest. They jumped in the cool water on hot summer days. They caught fish and swam like otters. But Bruno? He stayed far away. He thought water was scary and wet and maybe full of monsters.

One hot afternoon, Bruno heard crying near the riverbank. He tiptoed closer and saw a little fox cub named Frida. She was crying because her favorite ball—a bright red rubber ball—had floated into the middle of the river. The current was taking it away!

Bruno wanted to help, but his paws twitched nervously. The water looked deep and dark. He didn't know how to swim.

Then he saw something amazing. A tiny fish popped its head above the surface. "Hello!" said the fish. "I'm Finn! I can help you get that ball!"

"You can?" Bruno asked.

"Yes!" Finn swam around. "Jump in, bear! The water is wonderful! It's not scary at all—it's like flying, but wetter!"

Bruno looked at Frida, who was still crying. He looked at the ball floating away. He looked at Finn, who was dancing in the ripples.

Bruno took a deep breath. He put one big paw in the water. It felt cool and nice, not scary at all. He put in another paw. Then his whole body. And suddenly—splash! He was floating!

The water held him up like a gentle hand. Finn showed him how to paddle his paws. Together, they swam to the ball and pushed it back to shore.

Frida was so happy she did a little dance. "Thank you, Bruno! You're my best friend!"

Bruno beamed. He had made a friend, conquered his fear, and discovered something magical—water wasn't scary after all. It was just another place to have adventures.

From that day on, Bruno swam every day with Finn and Frida. He learned that the thing you're most afraid of might just be your next greatest adventure.
