The Bear Who Could Glow

Barnaby was a small brown bear who lived in the cozy hollow of an ancient oak tree. Every morning, his friend Penny, a bright-red cardinal with a feathery crest, would tap on his bark door.

'Barnaby! Wake up! The sun is painting the sky again!' she would chirp, fluttering her wings like tiny hearts.

But one chilly morning, Barnaby couldn't wake up. His fur felt like prickly pine needles, and his nose was as cold as a frozen berry. Penny pecked his cheek frantically.

'Oh no, oh no! My best bear friend is sick!' She zoomed to find Old Mother Owl, the wisest bird in the Whispering Woods.

Mother Owl adjusted her spectacles and examined Barnaby with gentle wings. 'This little bear needs something special,' she hooted softly. 'He needs the Golden Sunshine Vitamin from the top of Moon Mountain.'

Penny's eyes grew wide as dragonfly wings. 'But that's three days away! And the mountain touches the clouds!'

'Barnaby's glow is fading,' Mother Owl said. 'Without the Golden Sunshine Vitamin, he'll stay gray and sleepy forever.'

Penny puffed out her chest. 'I'll do it! For my friend!'

The journey was magical. Penny sang with crystal streams, danced with fireflies who guided her through shadowy forests, and climbed higher than any bird had ever flown. At the mountain's peak, she found the Golden Sunshine Vitamin—a glowing yellow berry that shimmered like captured sunshine.

'Please, little berry,' Penny whispered, 'my bear needs your magic.'

The berry glowed warmer and hopped into her beak! It wanted to help!

Penny flew back faster than shooting stars, arrived just as Barnaby's glow had almost disappeared. She fed him the magical berry, and suddenly—WHOOSH!

Barnaby's fur turned golden-brown again, his nose became warm and wiggly, and he smiled so brightly that little sunbeams danced around his den. He wasn't just better—he could now glow in the dark like a cozy night-light!

'You saved me,' Barnaby hugged Penny gently. 'You're the best friend any bear could ever have.'

Penny snuggled into his warm fur. 'That's what friends do. They fly to the moon and back for each other.'

And every night after that, if you looked carefully at the Whispering Woods, you could see a gentle golden glow coming from Barnaby's tree—proof that friendship is the most powerful vitamin of all.
