The Bear Who Could Breathe Underwater

Bernie was a small brown bear with very big dreams. Every morning, he'd sit by the edge of Sparkle Lake and watch the fish swim beneath the surface. How he wished he could join them!

One sunny afternoon, Bernie met a tiny goldfish named Finn with scales that shined like melted sunshine. "Hello there!" Finn called, popping his head above water. "Why do you look so sad?"

"I wish I could go swimming like you," Bernie sighed. "But bears sink like stones."

Finn flipped his tail happily. "I know someone who can help! My grandmother is the lake's oldest fish. She knows magical secrets."

Bernie followed Finn to an old underwater cable that snaked across the lake bottom. It hummed with mysterious energy. "This cable connects our lake to the Magic Garden," Finn explained. "My grandmother lives there."

At the end of the cable, they found a beautiful underwater garden filled with glowing plants. Finn's grandmother was a wise old goldfish who wore a crown of seashells. She listened to Bernie's wish and smiled.

"Eat three magical spinach leaves from this garden," she said, pointing to emerald-green leaves that sparkled like stars. "And you'll swim like a fish for one whole day."

Bernie ate the spinach leaves. They tasted like rainbows and happy thoughts! Suddenly, he could breathe underwater!

Bernie and Finn spent the most magical day together. They raced through sunken forests, played hide-and-seek in coral castles, and made friends with turtles, frogs, and even a shy crayfish. Bernie learned that even though he was different from the fish, they could still be wonderful friends.

When the spinach magic wore off, Bernie returned to his bear family, but he visited Finn every day. They discovered that true friendship doesn't need magic at all — it just needs two friends who care about each other.

And sometimes, just sometimes, Finn would splash water onto Bernie's nose, and for a moment, Bernie could almost remember the feeling of swimming beneath the stars.
