The Bear Who Collected Summer Dreams

Barnaby was a bear who lived beside the sparkling town swimming pool. Every day, he watched children splash and laugh, their baseball games echoing across the fence. Barnaby had never learned to swim—bears were supposed to love water, but he was afraid.

One afternoon, a red baseball sailed over the fence and landed at Barnaby's feet. A little girl named Lily peered through the fence. 'That's my lucky ball!' she called. 'Will you toss it back?'

Barnaby's heart pounded. He nudged the ball with his nose, but something magical happened—tiny lights sparkled around him. The ground softened into a pool of golden water!

Lily gasped. 'You're a vitamin bear! My mom says vitamin D comes from sunshine, but you must be made of wonder and dreams!' She climbed over the fence and splashed into the magical water beside him.

'I'm scared,' Barnaby whispered. 'Bears should know how to swim.'

'Everyone learns at their own pace,' Lily said. 'My baseball coach says practice makes perfect, but friends make it fun.' She tossed the baseball. 'Catch!' Barnaby stretched his paws and—splash—he was swimming!

The magical pool grew bigger as more children arrived. They played baseball while swimming, Barnaby guarding the goalposts with his furry belly. That day, Barnaby learned two things: swimming wasn't scary when friends helped, and being different made him special.

Every summer after, children brought Barnaby vitamin C candies—'for courage!' they said—and played baseball in his magical pool. Barnaby discovered that the best vitamin wasn't found in bottles or sunshine. It was friendship, mixed with a little bit of bravery and a whole lot of fun.
