The Bear Who Collected Storms
Barnaby was no ordinary bear. His fur was the color of storm clouds, and his hair stuck up in every direction—especially when he was nervous. And Barnaby was nervous a lot.
You see, Barnaby lived in a cave at the top of Whisper Mountain, and every summer, the most terrible thing happened: storms rolled in with flashing lightning and thunder that rattled his teeth. While other bears loved to splash in puddles and catch fish during rain showers, poor Barnaby would hide under his blanket, trembling.
One rainy afternoon, while cowering behind a boulder, Barnaby spotted something sparkling in a mountain pool. It was a tiny goldfish with scales like molten sunset.
"Hello there!" called the goldfish. "I'm Sunny! Why are you hiding?"
Barnaby peeked out. "The lightning. It's too bright and loud and scary."
Sunny swam closer. "But lightning is just the sky taking pictures! My grandpa says each flash captures a moment of magic."
"Really?" Barnaby's messy hair seemed to stand even taller with curiosity.
"Really!" Sunny bubbled. "Collect enough storm pictures, and you'll have the most wonderful album of summer memories."
Just then, the sky lit up with a spectacular lightning bolt. Instead of hiding, Barnaby watched. He saw the beautiful purple streak against the clouds, like a jagged golden ribbon.
"That one's for you," said Sunny. "Your first storm picture."
Barnaby smiled. Suddenly, the storm didn't seem so scary anymore. In fact, it was beautiful. And he had made a new friend.
From that day on, whenever lightning danced across the sky, Barnaby would rush outside, his crazy hair blowing in the wind, collecting magical moments. And Sunny would always be there, swimming in the mountain pool, reminding him that even the scariest things can be wonderful when you have a friend to share them with.
Barnaby was no longer a bear who hid from storms. He was a bear who collected them—one lightning flash at a time.
