The Bear Who Collected Stars

Lily discovered the pyramid in her grandmother's attic, hidden beneath a dusty quilt. It wasn't made of stone or gold, but of something that caught the afternoon sunlight and shimmered like captured moonbeams.

"It's a pyramid of wishes," whispered a voice from behind a stack of old books.

Lily jumped. A small bear with fur the color of autumn leaves waddled out, wearing a tiny red cap. He stood no taller than Lily's knee, but his eyes held the wisdom of something ancient.

"I'm Barnaby," said the bear. "And I've been waiting for a friend like you."

Lily's eyes widened. "A talking bear?"

"A bear who collects stars," Barnaby corrected proudly. "And the pyramid? It's where I keep them. Each star holds someone's wish. See, inside the pyramid, wishes come true—but only if you believe."

He pressed his paw against the crystal surface, and suddenly the pyramid glowed from within. Doors within its sides swung open, revealing not darkness but swirling galaxies of light.

"My best friend Orion got lost inside three hundred years ago," Barnaby said sadly. "He was chasing a falling star and wandered too far. Will you help me find him?"

Lily took Barnaby's paw. "I'm not afraid."

Together they stepped into the pyramid of stars.

Inside, everything was possible. Clouds became trampolines. Raindrops turned into rainbow candies. The air smelled like cinnamon and old dreams.

"Orion!" Barnaby called. His voice echoed through constellations that rearranged themselves into letters and numbers, then shapes of animals.

They found Orion stuck inside a giant bubble of starlight, floating near a nebula that looked suspiciously like a chocolate sundae. He was a bear too—silver-furred with patches that glowed like the moon.

"I've been trying to catch this star for three centuries," Orion laughed when they popped his bubble. "But I think I was really just waiting for someone to rescue me."

Barnaby hugged his friend. "Orion, this is Lily. She's our new friend."

Orion took Lily's hand. His paw was warm and tingled slightly. "Thank you. You know, the pyramid only opens its doors to someone whose heart is big enough to hold the universe."

They tumbled out of the pyramid as the sun set, dusting the attic in gold. The three of them sat together, watching the first star appear through the attic window.

"What's your wish, Lily?" Barnaby asked.

Lily smiled. "I already found it."

And that night, Lily learned the truest magic of all: friendship is the brightest star in anyone's sky, and sometimes the most wonderful adventures begin with an open heart and a bear in a red cap.
