The Bear Who Collected Lightning
Barnaby was a small bear with very big dreams. Every morning, he climbed to the top of Sunlight Mountain where the oldest orange tree in the world grew.
This wasn't just any orange tree. Its leaves shimmered like silver, and its fruit glowed with golden light. Barnaby had spent his whole life watching this tree, waiting for the perfect orange to ripen.
One day, something magical happened. A storm rolled in, purple and angry, with lightning dancing across the sky like invisible fingers. Most bears would hide in their caves, but Barnaby stood watching the ancient orange tree.
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck the tree! Barnaby gasped, ready to run away, but something made him stay. The lightning hadn't hurt the tree. Instead, it had wrapped around the biggest orange like a glowing embrace.
When the storm passed, Barnaby climbed the tree. The lightning-orange hummed with energy, warm and bright against his paw. But as he held it, he noticed something terrible—the lightning had weakened the tree's branches.
Barnaby had a choice. He could keep this magical orange that hummed with storm power, or he could help the tree.
With tears in his eyes, he pressed the orange against the trunk. "Grow strong," he whispered.
The orange dissolved into light, flowing into the tree. The branches straightened. The leaves grew greener. And in that moment, Barnaby understood—sometimes the greatest treasures aren't meant to be kept. They're meant to be shared.
The tree rewarded him with one perfect orange, ordinary and sweet, and Barnaby knew that kindness was the real magic all along.
