The Bear Who Chased Lightning

Oliver was the smallest bear in the forest, but he had the biggest dreams. While other bears slept through storms, Oliver watched lightning paint the sky in brilliant streaks of purple and gold.

One evening, as thunder rumbled like a giant's tummy, Oliver spotted something glowing beneath an old oak tree. It was an orange—but not just any orange. This fruit shimmered with inner light, as if it had captured a piece of the lightning itself.

"Magic," whispered Oliver, his nose twitching with wonder.

The orange pulsed gently, leading him deeper into the forest. Oliver followed its glow past sleeping owls and frightened squirrels until he reached a hidden pool he'd never seen before. But the pool was shrinking. Its waters had grown still and sad.

"The pool needs friends," said a soft voice.

Oliver looked down to see vibrant green spinach leaves growing at the water's edge, shimmering with dew. The spinach seemed to smile.

"I'm just a little bear," said Oliver. "What can I do?"

"Little things have the biggest magic," replied the spinach. "Especially when they bring friends."

Oliver's eyes widened. He grabbed his glowing orange and raced back through the storm, calling to every animal he could find. The rabbits came. The foxes came. Even the grumpy old badgers lumbered out of their dens, drawn by the orange's warm light.

Together, they splashed into the shrinking pool. They played and laughed until their joy filled the air like song. And something magical happened—the pool began to grow.

As each animal made a new friend, the water sparkled brighter. The lightning overhead danced in celebration. By dawn, the pool was deep and clear, surrounded by bears and rabbits and foxes, all sleeping in a cozy pile together.

Oliver nestled between a rabbit and a fox, his magical orange now a regular fruit—its magic had transferred to something better.

Friendship.

"See?" whispered the spinach in the morning breeze. "The smallest bear made the biggest splash of all."
