The Bear Who Caught Stars

Barnaby was a small bear with very big dreams. While other bears slept through the winter, Barnaby stayed awake, watching the sky dance with colors he couldn't name.

One stormy evening, when thunder rattled the windows of his cozy cave, Barnaby saw something magical. A bolt of lightning flashed across the dark sky, but instead of disappearing, it sparkled like glitter and drifted down toward the forest floor.

Curious, Barnaby followed the glowing spark. It led him to a clearing where a tiny stream of water babbled over smooth stones. There, caught in a spiderweb between two ferns, was a miniature lightning bolt—no bigger than a firefly—shimmering with all the colors of sunrise.

"Please help me!" squeaked the little lightning. "I fell from the sky during the storm, and I can't get back home without water to carry me!"

Barnaby's heart beat fast. He wanted to help, but how? He remembered how his mother had taught him that even the smallest bear could do big things.

"I'll help you," Barnaby promised. Using his paw, he carefully scooped water from the babbling stream into a large leaf. The little lightning hopped onto the water's surface, riding it like a tiny boat.

Barnaby carried his precious cargo to the highest hill in the forest. There, under a blanket of stars, he tossed the water upward. The lightning bolt rode the water drops all the way back to the clouds, painting a rainbow bridge as it ascended.

From that night on, whenever storms came, Barnaby wasn't afraid. He knew that somewhere up there, his friend the lightning was dancing among the stars, probably wondering which lucky bear might help next.

And sometimes, if you look carefully during a summer storm, you might just see a small bear sitting on a hill, watching the sky with a smile, ready for adventure.

For Barnaby learned that magic isn't about being big or powerful—it's about being brave enough to help, even when you're small. And that's the most wonderful kind of magic there is.
