The Bear Who Caught Lightning
Barnaby was a small, fuzzy brown bear with very big dreams. But Barnaby had a secret problem—he was terrified of water. While other bears splashed and played in the sparkling river, Barnaby stayed on the grassy bank, his paws tucked safely under him.
One hot summer afternoon, Barnaby's best friend Lily, a brave little otter, called from the river. "Come in, Barnaby! The water feels wonderful! You're missing all the fun!" Barnaby shook his head vigorously. No way was he going swimming.
Suddenly, the sky turned dark purple. Storm clouds gathered overhead, and CRACK! A bolt of lightning flashed across the sky. Rain poured down, turning the peaceful river into swirling, dancing waves.
As the first lightning bolt struck the water, something magical happened. The river began to glow with tiny lights that sparkled and danced like captured stars. Barnaby had never seen anything so beautiful. His fear disappeared.
He stepped into the glowing water, and when his paws touched the surface, he discovered something amazing—he could control the lights! With a thought, Barnaby made the shimmering currents form shapes: leaping fish, soaring birds, flowers that bloomed with color.
"Barnaby!" Lily squealed with delight. "You're making magic!"
Barnaby laughed, spinning around in the enchanted water. He realized that sometimes the most wonderful discoveries wait just beyond our fears.
When the storm ended and the lights faded, Barnaby became the river's special guardian. He taught all the young animals that being brave doesn't mean not being scared—it means doing amazing things even when you are.
Now Barnaby swims every day, and his friends join him. And during summer storms, they gather by the river to watch Barnaby catch lightning in the water, creating beautiful dancing lights that remind everyone: the best adventures begin when you're brave enough to try something new.
