The Bear Who Caught Lightning

Barnaby was a small bear with very big ears and an even bigger fear. He dreaded summer nights when the sky rumbled and flashed. While other animals curled peacefully in their dens, Barnaby trembled beneath his favorite pine tree.

One especially stormy evening, a bolt of lightning cracked the sky so bright that Barnaby squeezed his eyes shut. But when he opened them, something magical glimmered between the oaks — a tiny pyramid no bigger than his paw, crystalline and humming with trapped light. Each time lightning flashed, the pyramid pulsed rainbow colors.

Barnaby's fear melted into wonder. He crept closer, and another creature emerged from behind a birch — Luna, a silver fox who'd been watching the pyramid too.

"It only appears during storms," Luna whispered. "Legends say it collects lightning's magic to grant one wish to whoever is brave enough to touch it."

Barnaby's heart raced. Bravery? He was the least brave bear he knew. But the pyramid's glow was so beautiful, so inviting...

"What would you wish for?" Luna asked gently.

Barnaby thought. He could wish for endless honey, for a bigger den, for the courage to never fear storms again. But as lightning painted stripes across the sky, he realized something. The storm wasn't terrifying anymore — it was magnificent, like nature's own fireworks.

"I'd wish for all scared little animals to see the beauty in storms, not just the scary parts."

Luna smiled. "That's very brave."

Together, bear and fox reached out and touched the humming pyramid. Lightning struck somewhere distant, but the pyramid absorbed its light and expanded into a warm glow that wrapped around them both. Inside that glow, they saw the storm through new eyes — dancing lights, powerful but not angry, beautiful rather than frightening.

The pyramid dissolved into sparkles that scattered across the forest, leaving Barnaby and Luna under the clearing sky.

From that night on, whenever storms came, Barnaby didn't hide. He sat with Luna and watched the lightning show, remembering that sometimes the things we fear most are just magic we haven't understood yet.
