The Bear Who Caught Lightning
Lily loved visiting her special friend, a gentle bear named Bramble, in the forest behind her house. Bramble wasn't an ordinary bear. His thick brown hair shimmered with tiny sparkles that looked like captured stars.
One summer evening, as they sat beside their favorite hidden pool, dark clouds gathered overhead. The water, usually clear as glass, began to ripple with anticipation.
"The pool is magic," Bramble rumbled softly. "Watch."
Suddenly, lightning streaked across the sky, brilliant purple and gold. But instead of fading away, a single bolt zigzagged down and dipped right into the pool!
Lily gasped as the water glowed from within. Tiny fish made of pure light swam in circles, leaving trails of rainbow colors.
"Every hundred years," Bramble explained, "the pool catches lightning to keep the forest's heart beating. The light becomes magic dust that helps trees grow strong and flowers bloom bright."
But then Lily noticed something alarming. A small frog sat frozen at the pool's edge, too scared to move as another lightning bolt approached.
Without thinking, Lily grabbed a large leaf and scooped up the frog just as the lightning struck the water again. Her own hair stood straight up from the static electricity, making Bramble chuckle warmly.
"You saved him," the bear said proudly. "That's what true friends do—they protect each other, even when they're afraid."
The pool glowed even brighter that night, as if thanking Lily for her kindness. She and Bramble sat watching the light-dance until the storm passed, their friendship stronger than ever.
As she walked home, Lily touched her hair, still slightly fuzzy from the lightning. She smiled, knowing real magic wasn't just in the pool or the lightning. The truest magic was having a friend who would face storms with you.
