The Bear Who Caught Lightning

Oliver was a bear with shimmering silver fur, quite unusual for a bear who lived in the Misty Mountains. While other bears slept through summer storms, Oliver stayed awake, his golden eyes bright with wonder.

"Did you see that?" he would whisper each time lightning flashed across the sky. The other bears grumbled and pulled ferns over their heads. They preferred honey and naps over storms and magic.

But Oliver knew something the others didn't. Every lightning bolt carried a tiny piece of starlight, fallen from the sky and looking for a way back home.

One particularly stormy evening, Oliver crept to his favorite spot—Thunder Ridge, the highest peak in all the mountains. Rain sparkled like diamonds around him as he raised his paws toward the churning clouds.

"Come here, little star," he murmured.

A jagged bolt of lightning zipped toward him, then darted away like a playful fish. Oliver tried again, and again, but the lightning was too quick, too shy.

Then he heard something—a tiny whimper from behind a boulder. A small girl named Lily huddled there, clutching a stuffed bear. Her eyes widened when she saw Oliver.

"You're not scared?" she asked.

Oliver shook his massive head. "The storms are beautiful. But I've been trying to catch a star for three years, and I'm not very good at it."

Lily smiled. "Maybe you need a friend."

Together, they waited. When the next lightning bolt flashed, Lily didn't run. She stood beside Oliver and sang a little song her grandmother had taught her—a song about stars finding their way home.

The lightning paused, curious. It twinkled and danced closer, almost as if it were listening. Oliver held very still while Lily sang softly, her voice weaving through the rain like a golden thread.

Slowly, the lightning settled into Oliver's paws, warm and glowing like captured sunshine. But Oliver didn't keep it. With Lily's help, he sent it spiraling upward, brighter than ever, back to its friends among the stars.

From that night on, Oliver had two treasures: the storms he loved, and the first real friend who finally understood why some bears just can't sleep through the magic.
