The Bear Who Caught Lightning
Barnaby was a small bear with very big dreams. Every night, he watched storms dance across the sky, their lightning bolts painting the world in flashes of silver and gold.
"One day," Barnaby whispered, "I'll catch a lightning bolt and keep its magic forever."
The other bears laughed. "Lightning is too fast and too bright for a clumsy bear," they said. But Barnaby didn't give up.
One evening, as storm clouds gathered, Barnaby climbed to the highest mountain peak. He held up a special jar he had found – it was labeled 'Vitamin C for Stars', left behind by a careless wizard. The old bear at the village had told him that stars ate special vitamins to keep shining so brightly.
"Please," Barnaby called to the sky. "I just want a little bit of your magic."
A tiny lightning bolt heard him. Unlike the big scary bolts, this one was curious. It zipped down and spiraled around Barnaby's jar, leaving behind a glowing golden dust.
"Thank you!" Barnaby cheered. But when he looked down, he saw the storm had frightened a family of rabbits. Their burrow was flooding!
Barnaby knew what to do. He sprinkled the lightning dust over the rabbits. The magic made the raindrops turn into warm sunlight, and the floodwaters became a rainbow bridge that helped the rabbits reach safety.
The lightning bolt returned, bringing friends. They danced around Barnaby, not as scary flashes, but as playful sparkles.
Barnaby realized something wonderful that day: he hadn't just caught lightning – he had made friends with the sky. And the real magic wasn't in keeping something for himself. It was in sharing what he had to help others.
From then on, whenever storms came, Barnaby would climb his mountain. Not to catch lightning, but to help the lightning help those in need. And that, the bears agreed, was better than any treasure.
Sometimes, the smallest bears make the biggest heroes – especially when they have the courage to ask the sky for help.
