The Bear Who Caught Lightning
Barnaby was a small bear with a very big dream. While other bears spent their days hunting for berries and napping in sunny patches, Barnaby spent his time practicing padel behind an old oak tree. He'd found a discarded wooden paddle near a hiking trail, and a smooth rock became his ball.
Every afternoon, Barnaby would swat the rock back and forth against the tree trunk. *Thwack. Thwack.* But he always played alone. The other bears didn't understand his game. "Bears don't play sports," they'd grumble, lumbering past with their noses full of wild blueberries.
One stormy evening, as dark clouds gathered overhead, Barnaby refused to stop. Raindrops began to fall. *Thwack. Thwack.* The wind howled through the branches. *Thwack. Thwack.*
Suddenly, a bolt of lightning cracked open the sky!
It didn't strike the ground. Instead, it zapped right into Barnaby's wooden paddle!
*ZZZ-ZAP!*
Barnaby gasped. His paddle now glowed with a soft golden light, humming with gentle warmth. When he tapped the rock, it didn't just bounce—it SPARKLED, leaving tiny trails of light behind it like tiny shooting stars.
Other bears peeked from their dens, eyes wide with wonder. They'd never seen anything so magical.
Barnaby kept playing, and with every hit, beautiful patterns of light danced through the rainy forest. Lightning flashed above, but it wasn't scary anymore. It was like the sky was cheering for him!
One by one, the other bears came out. They watched, mesmerized, as Barnaby's game painted the dark forest with brilliant colors.
"Can we try?" a little bear cub asked timidly.
Barnaby smiled and passed his glowing paddle. That night, under a sky full of lightning and wonder, the bears learned something new: sometimes the best discoveries happen when you're brave enough to do things differently.
And now, whenever storms roll over the forest, you can still see them—all the bears, big and small—playing their magical padel game, turning frightening lightning into beautiful light shows together.
