The Bear Who Caught Lightning

In a jungle where palm trees swayed like dancing green giants, lived a small bear named Barnaby. Barnaby wasn't like other bears. While they hunted for fish and berries, Barnaby spent his days watching the sky.

One evening, as storm clouds gathered, Barnaby saw something magical. Lightning bolts danced across the darkened sky, painting it with brilliant flashes of yellow and white. They looked like ribbons of light playing tag!

"I want to be friends with the lightning," Barnaby whispered.

The other bears laughed. "Lightning is too fast and too wild," they said. But Barnaby didn't listen.

The next morning, he found something strange on the beach—a long, thick cable that had washed up from who-knows-where. It gleamed in the sunlight, mysterious and wonderful. Barnaby had an idea.

He dragged the cable up the tallest palm tree, climbing carefully until he reached the very top. There, he tied one end to a sturdy branch. The other end dangled like an invitation.

"Please, lightning," Barnaby called out. "Come play with me!"

That night, a storm approached. The wind howled through the palm fronds. Barnaby waited patiently in his tree, holding the cable tight. Suddenly—CRACK! A bolt of lightning streaked toward him!

But it didn't strike. Instead, it danced along the cable, making it glow with a soft, warm light. Barnaby felt a tingling sensation, but no pain—only joy and wonder.

"Hello!" Barnaby cheered. "I knew you'd come!"

The lightning bolt formed itself into a small spark that hopped around Barnaby's paws. They spent the night playing—running through the jungle together, making the trees sparkle with their joy.

When morning came, the little spark faded away, but it left Barnaby with a special gift. Now, whenever he felt lonely or sad, his paws would glow with a gentle light, reminding him that friendship comes in all forms—even the unexpected ones.

The other bears watched in amazement. They had been wrong about lightning. They had been wrong about Barnaby too.

From that day on, whenever storms came, all the bears would gather by the palm trees. Not to hide, but to watch their friend Barnaby dance with the lightning, reminding them that the most wonderful friendships are the ones we never saw coming.
