The Bear Who Befriended a Zombie
Barnaby was a small brown bear with a very special hat. It was a bright red hat with a yellow feather that bobbed when he walked. Every morning, Barnaby would put on his hat and go swimming in the sparkling blue river that flowed through the Whispering Woods.
One sunny day, while Barnaby was splashing in the water, he heard a strange noise. "Groan... mumble... stumble..." Barnaby peeked behind a big oak tree and saw something he had never seen before. It was green and bumpy, with stitches showing on its arms and legs. It moved slowly and awkwardly.
"Hello?" called Barnaby, holding his red hat tightly.
The creature looked up with kind, gentle eyes. "Hello, little bear. I'm Zed. I'm a zombie, but please don't be scared."
Barnaby wasn't scared at all. He had learned that true friends come in all shapes and sizes. "I'm Barnaby! Do you want to go swimming with me?"
Zed shook his head sadly. "I can't swim. I'm too heavy, and I might sink. Besides, everyone runs away when they see me."
"That's not fair!" said Barnaby bravely. "You seem very nice. Let me teach you how to float!"
Every day that summer, Barnaby helped Zed. They started in the shallow water, with Zed holding onto Barnaby's special hat as a floatie. Slowly, Zed learned to kick his legs and move his arms. The other forest animals watched from behind trees, amazed that a bear and a zombie could become such good friends.
By the end of summer, Zed was swimming all by himself! He could even dive down to the bottom of the river to find shiny pebbles for Barnaby's collection. The other animals came out of hiding and cheered.
"You taught me that I could do anything," Zed said to his best friend.
Barnaby smiled and adjusted his red hat. "And you taught me that friendship is about what's in your heart, not what you look like on the outside."
From that day on, Barnaby the bear and Zed the zombie swam together every day, showing everyone that kindness and courage can turn anyone into friends.
