The Bear Who Became a Friend
Barnaby the bear loved baseball more than anything in the forest. Every afternoon, he would sit behind the old oak tree and watch the children play at the nearby park. He dreamed of joining their game, but bears aren't allowed in town.
One sunny day, Barnaby found a dusty baseball cap hidden in the leaves. It was red with a blue B on the front—perfect! When he put it on, something magical happened. Barnaby didn't look like a bear anymore. He looked just like a regular kid!
With his new cap, Barnaby trotted onto the baseball field. "Hey, want to play?" called a girl with curly hair. "I'm Mia!"
"I'm Barnaby," he said, trying to sound like a normal boy. The truth was, he was a spy—a secret bear on a very important mission: to make a friend.
They played until the sun began to set. Barnaby hit the ball so far it landed in the creek! Mia cheered and gave him a high-five. His furry heart felt warm and happy.
"See you tomorrow, Barnaby!" Mia waved goodbye.
Barnaby hurried back to the forest, but he forgot his special cap! The next morning, Mia found it under the bench. She knew exactly where to go.
When she reached the oak tree, a large bear poked his head out. Mia gasped, then smiled. "Barnaby?"
The bear nodded sadly. He thought she would run away.
Instead, Mia placed the cap on his head. "Best friend forever?" she asked.
Barnaby wrapped his big fuzzy arms around her in the gentlest hug. A bear spy's mission was complete: he had found the greatest treasure of all—a true friend who liked him exactly as he was.
