The Bear, The Pool, and The Midnight Friend
Emma's stuffed bear, Theodore, sat on her pillow every night. He was brown and fuzzy with one button eye that always seemed to wink at her. Emma loved Theodore more than anything in the world.
One full-moon night, Emma heard scratching at her window. When she peeked outside, she couldn't believe her eyes—the bear was hopping through the garden!
"Theodore?" she whispered, following him into the backyard.
Behind the old oak tree, something shimmered like liquid silver. A magical pool had appeared, glowing with starlight even though the sky was cloudy. Theodore dipped his paw into the water, and ripples of rainbow colors spread across the surface.
"Come in!" a voice bubbled up from the water.
A green face popped out—not scary at all, but friendly with big purple eyes and a smile that stretched from ear to pointed ear.
"I'm a zombie," the creature said, "but not the scary kind. I'm a water zombie! I live in this magical pool, and I've been so lonely. No one ever comes to visit."
Theodore patted the zombie's hand. "I'm Theodore, and this is Emma. We'll be your friend!"
The zombie's face lit up. "Really? I've wanted a friend for hundreds of years! This pool was made from moonlight and wishes, and it only appears to those who believe in magic."
Every night after that, Emma and Theodore visited their new friend. They played games in the glowing water, had underwater tea parties, and the zombie taught them to speak fish-bubble language.
Emma learned that sometimes the things that seem different or strange can become the best friends of all. And Theodore? He became the bravest bear in the world, making friends wherever he hopped.
The magical pool still appears in Emma's backyard on full-moon nights, waiting for anyone who believes in the magic of friendship and the wonder of unexpected adventures.
