The Bear's Water Wish

waterrunningbear

Lily loved the pond at the edge of the forest. Its surface sparkled like scattered diamonds in the morning sun, and the water always whispered secrets when she dipped her toes in.

One day, while sitting on the mossy bank, she noticed something magical. Tiny droplets of water were jumping on their own, forming glistening shapes in the air. A water rabbit hopped beside her. A water butterfly fluttered past.

"Beautiful, isn't it?" rumbled a deep, friendly voice.

Lily jumped and turned around. A great bear stood behind her, his fur the color of autumn leaves. But he wasn't scary at all - his eyes crinkled with kindness, like her grandfather's when he told stories.

"I'm Bernward," said the bear. "I'm the keeper of water wishes."

"Water wishes?" Lily whispered, her eyes widening.

Bernward nodded. "Every drop of water holds a dream. When someone pure of heart lets the water guide them, amazing things happen."

The bear padded to the pond's edge and touched the surface with one giant paw. Ripples spread outward in golden rings. Images formed in the water - children laughing, families dancing, flowers blooming in winter.

"Would you like to make a water wish?" Bernward asked.

Lily nodded eagerly. She closed her eyes and thought of her biggest dream: to run through meadows without her asthma holding her back, to feel the wind in her hair, to be free.

Bernward guided her to stand in the shallow water. "Now, feel the water's rhythm. Let it flow through you."

Lily stood still as water circled her ankles. Suddenly, she felt light - lighter than air. The water lifted her, and she started running, but not on the ground. She was running ON the water, skimming across the surface like a stone, faster and freer than she'd ever moved before. She laughed with pure joy, running in great loops across the pond, the bear watching with approval.

When she finally stepped back to land, she felt different inside. The water had awakened something - courage, hope, a knowing deep in her heart that her body would grow stronger.

"Thank you, Bernward!" she hugged the bear's soft fur.

"The water remembers you now," Bernward rumbled. "Come back whenever you need strength."

Lily ran home that day, each footstep lighter, her heart full of magic and possibility.

The pond would always be her special place, where water danced, bears kept wishes, and a little girl learned that running toward dreams is the first step to making them real.
