The Bear's Vitamin of Brave

Lily loved her fuzzy brown bear, Barnaby. He had soft fur that stuck up like messy grass, and one ear that always flopped over his eye. Every night, Lily would arrange her pillows into a giant pyramid and climb to the top with Barnaby. This was their castle.

One Tuesday, Lily's mom shook a bottle at breakfast. "Time for your vitamin, sweetie!" she said. Lily swallowed the tiny tablet and made a face. "Eww. Vitamins are yucky."

That night, in the pillow pyramid, Barnaby twitched. His button eyes sparkled. "Lily," he whispered, "did you know that vitamins are actually magic drops of bravery?"

Lily gasped. "Really?"

Barnaby nodded. "Yes! Today's vitamin gave you super courage. And I ate my vitamin too — it was hidden inside your pocket!"

Suddenly, a shadowy figure stumbled into the room. It was Lily's older brother, Max, wearing his Halloween costume. "I am the zombie!" he groaned, walking like a wobbly penguin. "Brains... brains..."

Lily would usually hide under her covers. But tonight, she stood tall on her pillow pyramid. "Go away, silly zombie! This is our castle!" she announced, placing her hands on her hips.

Max froze, then grinned. "Whoa, Lil. You're actually being brave for once."

"That's the vitamin!" Lily said proudly. "Barnaby says vitamins give you magic courage."

Max laughed. "Well, Mr. Zombie is going to bed now. Goodnight, brave knight and her bear."

As Max left, Lily hugged Barnaby tight. His fuzzy hair tickled her nose. "You were right, Barnaby. I wasn't scared at all!"

"That's because bravery was inside you all along," Barnaby whispered, his floppy ear twitching. "The vitamin just helped you remember."

Lily smiled, arranging her pyramid pillows perfectly. She knew tomorrow would bring more adventures — as long as she had her vitamin, her bear, and her very own castle of dreams.
