The Bear's Secret Riddle
Barnaby was a curious young bear with honey-colored fur and a nose that twitched whenever something interesting was nearby. One sunny morning, while wandering through the Whispering Woods, he heard something strange — splashing, followed by a low, rumbling purr.
Following the sound, Barnaby pushed through a thicket of blackberry bushes and gasped. There, beside a sparkling pool of crystal-clear water, sat the most magnificent creature he had ever seen. It had the body of a lion, the wings of an eagle, and the face of a wise old cat.
"A sphinx!" Barnaby whispered, remembering stories his grandmother had told him by the fire.
The sphinx turned its golden head. Its eyes sparkled like stars. "Greetings, little bear," it said in a voice like gentle thunder. "I am Solara, keeper of the Riddle Lake. I have been waiting for someone like you."
Barnaby's paws tingled with excitement. "For me? But I'm just a bear who likes honey and exploring."
"Exactly!" Solara's wings fluttered. "Curiosity is the greatest treasure. But to drink from this magical water, you must solve my riddle."
Barnaby nodded bravely. "I'm ready."
Solara smiled mysteriously. "I have no feet, but always run. I have no mouth, but always roar. What am I?"
Barnaby thought hard. He thought about the river that flowed through his forest home. He thought about the rain that made the flowers grow. Suddenly, his eyes widened.
"Water!" Barnaby exclaimed. "The answer is water!"
Solara's laughter was like wind chimes. "Correct!" She dipped her paw into the pool, and the water began to glow with rainbow colors. "You may drink, little bear. This water grants one wish to those who are pure of heart."
Barnaby lapped up the glowing water. It tasted like sunshine and stardust. Then he thought carefully about his wish. He could wish for endless honey. He could wish for a cozy cave. He could wish to be the strongest bear in the forest.
Instead, Barnaby said, "I wish that every animal in the Whispering Woods could be as curious and friendly as I feel today."
Solara's eyes shone with pride. "A truly wise wish. Friendship and curiosity are the greatest magic of all."
From that day on, Barnaby visited Solara often. And thanks to his wish, animals all through the woods became friends, sharing adventures and discoveries together. The bear had learned something wonderful — the best wishes are the ones that help others too.
