The Bear's Magical Water Wish

Barnaby the bear woke up one sunny morning with a big yawn. He stretched his fuzzy paws and looked at the sparkly blue river near his cave. But something was wrong. The river had dried up! Only tiny puddles remained where happy fish used to swim.

Barnaby loved water more than anything. He loved splashing in cool streams on hot days and watching the rainbow fish swim by. Now his fish friends were gone.

"Oh no," said Barnaby. "Where did everyone go?"

He walked along the dry riverbank until he found something amazing — a tiny puddle with ONE little orange goldfish flopping around. Her shiny scales glittered like tiny stars in the sun.

"Help me," squeaked the goldfish. "My name is Glimmer. I'm stuck!"

Barnaby scooped up Glimmer in his big paw. But where could he take her? Then he had an idea! His favorite floppy blue hat from the lost-and-found box was perfect. He filled it with water from a secret spring only bears knew about, and gently placed Glimmer inside.

"Thank you, Bear!" Glimmer swam in happy circles. "I know where the big water went! The Moon Dragon borrowed it for his papaya garden. But he forgot to return it!"

Barnaby's eyes went wide. "A papaya garden? That sounds delicious! And magical!"

With Glimmer swimming safely in his water-filled hat, Barnaby climbed the tallest mountain until they reached the clouds. There they found it — a glowing garden where papayas the size of beach balls grew from silver bushes. The Moon Dragon was curled nearby, snoring tiny puffs of glitter.

"Excuse me," whispered Barnaby. The Moon Dragon opened one giant purple eye.

"Oh!" the dragon sat up. "I completely forgot! I borrowed the river water to help my papayas grow, but I didn't return it. What a forgetful dragon I am!"

The Moon Dragon waved his tail, and WHOOSH! All the water came rushing back to the river below, twinkling with moon magic. Barnaby and Glimmer slid down the mountain on a wave of sparkling water.

All the fish returned! Everyone had a huge party with papaya treats, and Barnaby became known as the Bear Who Saved The River. He still wore his blue hat every day, just in case another friend needed a ride somewhere magical.

And sometimes, if you look closely at the river, you can still see Glimmer the goldfish making heart shapes in the water to say thank you to her best bear friend.
