The Bear's Magical Garden
Lily sat on her front porch, tapping away on her iphone. She was playing her favorite game when she heard a rustle in the bushes. A fuzzy brown nose poked out, followed by two curious eyes.
"Hello there," whispered Lily, setting down her phone.
A friendly bear stepped into view! He wasn't scary at all. He wore a tiny red cap and carried a basket filled with leafy greens.
"Would you like some spinach?" the bear asked kindly. "It's magical spinach from my garden!"
Lily made a face. "I don't like spinach. It's yucky."
The bear smiled. "Ah, but you haven't tried MY spinach. Come see!" He led her through a hidden path in the woods to a secret garden. Everything glowed with soft light.
The bear showed her a shimmering pond. "This is special water," he explained. "When I water my garden with it, the vegetables grow full of magic!"
He picked a bright green spinach leaf and gave it to Lily. She took a tiny bite.
"Yummy!" Lily exclaimed. "It tastes like sunshine and rainbows!"
"Now you're my friend," the bear beamed. "Would you like to help me in the garden?"
Lily nodded eagerly. She forgot all about her iphone as she and the bear planted seeds, watered them with the magical water, and watched them grow.
That evening, Lily's mom couldn't believe it when Lily asked for seconds of the spinach at dinner.
"What changed?" her mom asked.
Lily smiled, thinking of her new bear friend and the magical garden. "Sometimes," she said, "you just need to see things in a whole new light."
The next day, Lily left her iphone inside. She had discovered something much better — adventures with a friend who showed her that magic can be found in the most unexpected places, even in a simple spinach leaf.
