The Bear's Magical Cable

Lily's golden retriever, Max, was barking at something behind their house. The seven-year-old girl followed him through the tall grass until she gasped in wonder. A tiny bear, no bigger than a stuffed animal, sat holding a glowing cable that stretched up into the clouds.

"I'm Barnaby," the bear said in a squeaky voice. "I'm fixing the rainbow cable! It's all tangled again."

Lily knelt down. "Why does a rainbow need a cable?"

"It's how dreams travel!" Barnaby explained, struggling with the knotted cord. Max sniffed the bear's paw and sneezed, making Barnaby giggle.

The bear's stomach rumbled loudly. He looked embarrassed. "I haven't eaten since I started climbing. All I have is my emergency padel." He pulled out a small metal plate with strange symbols etched on it.

"What's a padel?" Lily asked, fascinated.

"Dream workers use them to catch falling wishes!" Barnaby's eyes twinkled. "But I'm too hungry to climb higher."

Lily's heart squeezed with sympathy. She had her mom's special sandwich in her pocket from earlier that day. "You can have my sandwich!"

As Barnaby ate, he grew bigger with every bite—until he was the size of a real bear, but still gentle and kind. "Thank you!" he rumbled happily. "Friendship is the strongest magic, even stronger than dream cables!"

With Max running happily beside them, Lily helped Barnaby untangle the rainbow cable. When they finished, the cable glowed brighter than ever, and hundreds of tiny lights—dreams for children around the world—rushed up it like shooting stars in reverse.

"You and Max are part of the Dream Team now," Barnaby said, pressing the magical padel into Lily's hands. "Use it well."

That night, Lily and Max watched through her window as dreams floated up to the sky on cables of light. She touched her new padel and smiled, knowing friendship could make magic happen anywhere.
