The Bear's Magic Pool
Lily loved exploring the forest behind her house. One summer afternoon, she followed a sparkling path she'd never noticed before. It led to a hidden clearing where crystal water filled a natural pool.
Suddenly, a great bear appeared! But this bear was different—its fur was the color of sunset, and strands of golden hair glittered like magic threads between its ears. Lily wasn't scared. The bear's eyes were kind and wise.
"I've been waiting for you," the bear spoke in a rumbly, gentle voice. "This is the Memory Pool. It shows what truly matters."
Lily's pocket buzzed. Her iPhone! She'd been so busy taking pictures and videos lately that she'd forgotten to really SEE the world. The bear nodded knowingly.
"Your lightning box captures images," said the bear, "but can it capture the feeling of sunshine on your face? The smell of pine? The joy of discovery?"
Lily looked at her phone, then at the magical pool. The water began to glow, showing reflections—real memories, not digital ones. Her mom's laugh. Her dad's silly bedtime stories. The way her dog's fur felt like warm clouds.
"Oh," Lily whispered. "I've been looking at screens instead of living."
The bear smiled. "Technology is wonderful. But magic happens when you're fully present. Put down your lightning box. Try something instead."
Lily hesitated, then placed her iPhone on a mossy rock. She stepped to the pool's edge and gasped. The water rippled with actual light—real lightning swirled beneath the surface, creating pictures of stories yet to come.
She saw herself climbing trees, painting mud pictures, catching fireflies. Making real memories, not just digital ones.
"Will you remember?" the bear asked as its lightning-streaked hair shimmered in the dappled sunlight.
"Every day," Lily promised.
The bear nodded and melted into golden light, leaving the pool still and peaceful. Lily returned for her iPhone, but now she knew when to use it and when to simply BE.
That summer, Lily took fewer pictures but made more memories. And sometimes, when she visited the hidden pool, she saw the bear watching from between the trees, its wild hair glowing like a promise: magic lives in moments fully lived, not just captured.
