The Bear's Magic Phone
Lily was sitting by the pond, dipping her toes in the cool water, when she heard a strange splash. She peered through the tall grass and couldn't believe her eyes—a large brown bear was swimming gracefully across the pond!
The bear spotted Lily and paddled over to the shore.
"Hello there!" said the bear, shaking water from his fuzzy ears. "I'm Barnaby. Would you like to meet my friend?"
Lily nodded, eyes wide.
Barnaby reached behind a smooth rock and carefully lifted out a small glass bowl. Inside swam the most beautiful goldfish, shimmering like tiny living sunshine.
"This is Glimmer," Barnaby said gently. "She used to live in the pond, but she was too small and scared. So I made her a safe home right here by the water. Every day, I take her swimming in a special basket so she can still feel the pond's magic."
Lily watched Glimmer swim in happy circles. "That's so kind of you, Barnaby."
Barnaby smiled, then did something surprising. He pulled out an iPhone from behind the rock.
"My friend Oliver left this here last summer," Barnaby explained. "It still has magic in it—see?" He tapped the screen, and it showed hundreds of photos: Oliver and Barnaby swimming, Oliver and Barnaby eating berries, Oliver and Barnaby watching Glimmer swim.
"Even though Oliver lives far away now, we stay friends through this magic window," Barnaby said. "True friendship doesn't disappear just because someone is far away. It grows bigger, like ripples in a pond."
Lily understood then. Friendship wasn't about being together all the time. It was about caring for each other, like Barnaby caring for Glimmer, and remembering each other, like the photos on Oliver's phone.
"Can I take a picture with you and Glimmer?" Lily asked. "My grandma lives far away, and I want to show her I made magical friends today."
Barnaby beamed. "Of course!"
And as Lily snapped the photo, she knew that friendship, like Glimmer's golden scales, could sparkle bright forever—even across the longest distances.
