The Bear's Magic Mirror
Lily loved summer days at Crystal Lake. She was swimming when something slipped from her pocket—her iPhone! It sank with a soft plop into the deep blue water. Tears filled her eyes. That phone held all her favorite games and photos of Grandma.
But the lake had secrets. A curious bear named Barnaby lived in the forest nearby. He'd never seen anything like the shiny rectangle that now rested on a sandy patch near the shore. Barnaby nudged it with his wet nose. The screen lit up!
He tapped the glass with his clumsy paw. Suddenly, his own face appeared—huge and furry with twinkling brown eyes. Barnaby jumped back, then giggled. He was a handsome bear! He spent the afternoon taking silly photos and recording himself splashing in the water.
Lily returned the next day, searching in the tall grass. She followed the sound of strange beeping and found Barnaby playing with her phone. But she wasn't afraid. The bear's happy smile reminded her of her teddy bear at home.
"That's my magic mirror," she whispered.
Barnaby's ears perked up. He gently pushed the phone toward her. Lily gasped at the screen—hundreds of photos of Barnaby making funny faces, splashing, and even one where he'd decorated himself with flowers.
They spent the day together. Lily showed Barnaby how to take videos, and he showed her the secret berry patches where the sweetest fruit grew. She learned that bears could be gentle friends, and he discovered that humans could be kind too.
When it was time to leave, Lily made a choice. "You keep the magic mirror, Barnaby. It likes you better."
The bear's eyes sparkled. He understood—the best treasure wasn't the shiny phone. It was their new friendship. And sometimes, the most magical discoveries happen when you lose something important but find something better instead.
Every summer, Lily returns to swim with her bear friend. And sometimes, if you look closely at the lake's edge, you might still see Barnaby taking selfies with his favorite human.
