The Bear's Heart Vitamin
In the middle of the Whispering Woods lived Barnaby, a small brown bear with the biggest heart in the forest. But Barnaby had a secret—he was terribly shy. His roar came out as a squeak. When other bears wrestled and tumbled, Barnaby hid behind blackberry bushes.
One sunny morning, Barnaby met Ferdinand, a massive bull with golden horns and gentle eyes. Ferdinand had wandered from Farmer Green's meadow and was munching happily on clover.
"Hello, little friend," Ferdinand said. "You look like you could use something special."
Barnaby sighed. "I wish I had courage like you. You're so big and brave."
Ferdinand chuckled, his warm breath smelling of mint and sunshine. "Oh, I'm not brave! I'm just a bull who knows what he likes." He nudged Barnaby with his soft nose. "Come with me."
They walked through the forest until they reached an ancient oak tree. Inside its hollow trunk grew glowing orange flowers.
"These are courage flowers," Ferdinand explained. "But they only work if you believe. My grandmother called them the heart's vitamin—they make you grow from the inside."
Barnaby's eyes widened. "A vitamin for my heart?"
"Exactly!" Ferdinand nodded. "Try one."
Barnaby nibbled a petal. It tasted like honey and starlight. Suddenly, he felt warm inside, like someone had wrapped him in a fuzzy blanket.
"Now," said Ferdinand, "let's find something wonderful."
They discovered a family of rabbits trapped by a fallen log. Without thinking, Barnaby pushed with all his might. The log moved! The rabbits hopped free, and Barnaby let out the mightiest ROAR any bear had ever heard.
Ferdinand beamed. "See? The vitamin helped you see what was already there."
Barnaby realized the bull was right. The courage vitamin had simply shown him what he'd possessed all along—a brave and loving heart.
From that day on, Barnaby was still small, but he was never shy again. And every spring, he and Ferdinand gathered courage flowers together, sharing them with anyone who needed a little reminder of their own inner strength.
