The Bear in the Lightning Pool
Lily pressed her small palm against the window, watching the summer lightning dance across the dark sky. Each flash made the backyard pool glow like magic.
"Did you see that?" Lily whispered, but her little brother was already fast asleep.
Suddenly, the strangest thing happened. A bolt of lightning didn't strike the ground — it spiraled straight into their swimming pool, creating a swirling vortex of blue light. Without thinking, Lily found herself running toward the pool, drawn by an invisible force.
As she reached the edge, the water began to bubble and sparkle. Rising from the center was not a monster, but a gentle bear made entirely of crackling lightning! Its eyes were warm like sunshine, and when it spoke, its voice rumbled like distant thunder.
"Hello, Lily. I've been waiting for someone brave enough to visit during a storm."
Lily's eyes went wide. "You're made of lightning!"
"I'm a Storm Guardian," the bear explained. "We protect children who are afraid of storms. But lately, I've been lonely. No one has visited in years."
Lily reached out her palm, and to her surprise, the lightning bear touched her with a paw that felt like warm static electricity, not fire. "I'm not afraid of storms," she said boldly. "I think they're beautiful."
The bear's face brightened. "Then you must be the special one I've been waiting for! Will you help me show other children that storms aren't scary?"
Together, they discovered that the bear could create beautiful pictures in the sky with lightning — dancing giraffes, smiling suns, even words that said "DON'T BE AFRAID." Lily realized that something that seems scary can actually be magical and wonderful if you look at it differently.
When the storm passed, the bear gave Lily a small gift — a tiny lightning bolt that fit in the palm of her hand, warm and glowing like a night-light. "Whenever you're afraid," it whispered, "remember me."
That night, Lily drifted to sleep with her palm cupped around the tiny light, knowing that every storm held friendship and magic, just waiting to be discovered.
