The Bear and the Starlight Pool

Benny was a small bear with very big dreams. Every night, he watched the stars twinkling above his forest home and wondered what magic they held.

One warm summer evening, Benny followed a trail of glowing fireflies deep into the woods. They led him to a place he had never seen before—a crystal pool that shimmered like liquid silver. Moonbeams danced across its surface, and the water seemed to hum with ancient songs.

"Who enters my sacred pool?" a voice rumbled like gentle thunder.

Benny's fur stood up, but he didn't run. From the shadows stepped a magnificent sphinx—golden body like a lion, wise human face, and enormous feathery wings. But this sphinx wasn't scary. Her eyes sparkled with kindness.

"I'm Benny," he squeaked. "I didn't mean to disturb anything. The fireflies were so beautiful, and I followed them here."

The sphinx smiled. "Curiosity is a gift, little bear. This is the Starlight Pool. It shows those who are pure of heart their truest dreams."

She lowered her magnificent head. "But first, you must answer my riddle: What has keys but can't open locks, has space but no room, and lets you travel anywhere without moving?"

Benny thought hard. He remembered his mother's old piano. He remembered the stories she read to him. He remembered how books could take him anywhere.

"A keyboard!" Benny exclaimed. "A piano keyboard has keys but no locks. And—wait—" He paused. "No, that's not quite right for the second part. A map! It has space for all the places in the world, and you can travel anywhere by looking at it!"

The sphinx's laughter sounded like wind chimes. "Close, little one. The answer is... a computer keyboard! But your map answer shows wisdom too."

She touched the pool with her golden paw. The water swirled with colors, and suddenly Benny saw something amazing—himself, grown bigger, exploring the world and helping other creatures.

"Your dream is to be an adventurer and helper," the sphinx said. "Always keep your curious heart, and it will come true."

Every moon after that, Benny visited his friend the sphinx. She taught him riddles, and he taught her about forest fun—berry picking, cloud watching, and the joy of rolling down grassy hills.

And the magical Starlight Pool? It showed Benny something even better than dreams: that the best adventures are the ones you share with friends.
