The Bear and the Glowing Pool
Lily loved visiting her grandmother's house in Florida. The best part was the swimming pool tucked right beside a giant palm tree. Lily would spend hours swimming and dreaming under the swaying palm fronds.
One hot afternoon, Lily was playing her favorite game on her iPhone when—SPLASH! The phone slipped from her wet hands and sank to the bottom of the pool.
"Oh no!" Lily cried. She took a deep breath and dove underwater to find it.
But when she reached the bottom, something magical happened. The pool wasn't a pool anymore—it was a whole sparkling kingdom! And there, wearing a tiny golden crown, was the friendliest bear Lily had ever seen.
"Hello there!" the bear said, holding up Lily's iPhone. "I believe this belongs to you?"
Lily popped up to the surface, gasping for air. When she looked back down, the bear was floating beside her, and the pool was a pool again.
"I'm Bernie!" the bear said, climbing out and shaking water droplets from his fuzzy brown fur. "I've been waiting for someone to drop something in my pool for fifty years!"
Lily giggled. "Your pool?"
"Well, I'm the guardian!" Bernie explained. "This magical palm tree," he patted the trunk, "planted itself over a secret spring. I make sure only kind kids find the magic."
Bernie returned the iPhone, but it had changed—now it showed beautiful nature pictures instead of games. "Games are fun," Bernie said, "but the real magic is outside, exploring with friends."
That summer, Lily and Bernie had the best adventures. They climbed the palm tree, searched for fairy shells, and swam in the glowing pool at dusk when the water sparkled like stars.
When September came, Bernie gave Lily a special goodbye gift—a tiny palm leaf pressed in her iPhone case. "So you never forget," he whispered. "Magic is real, but friendship is the greatest magic of all."
Every time Lily visits, she runs straight to the pool. And Bernie is always there, waiting with a smile and a new adventure ready under their palm tree.
